Yesterday I bumped into a girl I know at Barnes and Noble. She had a blob of papers on her lap as she was studying for some class she is taking. I hadn't seen her since May, when she took off for the summer to stay at home with her mom in her native Ukraine.
She told me she was trying to get a hold of me because she had news. Since May she found out she was pregnant and had gotten married to her boyfriend! Surprised and happy, I gave her my congratulations. She is 21-years-old and has one year left until she graduates. She had a ton of questions for me and now a pregnant expert, I willingly answered. It's funny how in May she was joking to me about having a kid and now she really is expecting.
Is it because I am in my late thirties that I think 21 is too young to have babies? When I was 21, that was the last thing on my mind. But then, my mom had two kids by the time she was 23 so who am I to judge? I'm just saying that I couldn't have done it. I wasn't mature enough at 21. I just wanted to go bar hopping and party at that age.
